STONE OF THE MONTH
Emerald
As the birthstone for May, the emerald, a symbol of rebirth, is believed to
grant the owner foresight, good fortune, and youth. Emerald, derived from the
word smaragdus, meaning green in Greek, was mined in Egypt as
early as 330 B.C. Today, most of the world’s emeralds are mined in Colombia,
Brazil, Afghanistan, and Zambia. The availability of high-quality emerald is limited; consequently, treatments to improve clarity are performed regularly.

FESTIVAL OF THE MONTH
COOPER HILL CHEESE ROLLING
COOPER HILL CHEESE ROLLING
Location: Cooper’s Hill, Brockworth, England
Date: last Monday in May (Spring Bank Holiday)
Level of participation: 5 – chase a small block of cheese
down a very steep slope
You may have thought the most dangerous thing about cheese was the mould, but
then you’ve probably never stood atop Cooper’s Hill on this mad Monday. The
premise is simple: a handmade, seven-pound circle of Double Gloucester cheese
is rolled down the hill and a gaggle of people chase down behind it. The first
to the bottom of the hill (or to grab the cheese) wins, and gets to keep the
cheese. Which does nothing to explain the mud, the slippery grass, the slope and
the injury toll.

Jelly, Jam, and Buttered Toast
Jelly, jam, and buttered toast.
I like breakfast food the most.
Bagels, cream cheese, juices -- fresh squeeze,
make me say, pass more here please.
Lunch will often make me mutter.
I'm not fond of peanut butter.
I hate chips that won't go crunch.
Truly, I do not like lunch.
Now dinner is another meal
I'll take or leave, that's how I feel.
There's always veggies I can't stand.
I have to eat them on demand.
If I could choose and have my way.
well, we'd eat breakfast food all day.
